In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling meadows, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His life was mostly pure, simple yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to look after his flock of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the rustling of the breezes among the solo tree on the mountaintop were his only companions. Day after day, looking out for his wards imbued in him a notion of tranquil contentment.

Yet, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. During one such occasion because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.

Narratives of wild beasts hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One day read more he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills for rescue but found nothing threatening.

The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a few days more. However, one morning, a real wolf did charge at the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the consequences of dishonesty.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once broken, is difficult to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
